Put it on your site
Two lines, pasted once, wherever your website keeps the things that show on every page.
What to do
- Sign in and add your website. You will be asked for its address and which time zone your days should run in.
- Choose Tracking code. The two lines are shown with your website's identifier already in them.
- Paste them into your website's template, in the part that appears on every page. Most website builders have a box for this, usually called custom code or header.
- Open one of your own pages. Your first visit shows up within a minute.
What the two lines are
The first is the beacon — a script under 2 KB that records a page being opened, roughly how long it was actually on screen, how far down it was read and whether anything was clicked or typed into.
The second is an image, inside a noscript tag, for readers whose browser runs no scripts at all. It records the page being opened and nothing else.
Worth knowing
- Neither line sets a cookie or stores anything on your visitor's device.
- The address in the code is the one you read your dashboard on. There is nothing else to configure.
- Some readers block analytics scripts. Those visits are invisible to the beacon — reporting from your own server is how you see them.
